HOWL CON Cancellation/Postponement. Again.

January 21st, 2016

Friends and pack, it grieves me to confirm that 2016’s HOWL CON cannot be convened as planned. The reasons are manifold, and if you want the grisly details shoot me an email; suffice it to say that venue issues, communication problems, and money woes are at the hemorrhaging heart of the matter. I owe you all an apology for not announcing postponement sooner–I took too long looking for some way to save the event, and I’m sorry if this short notice badly inconveniences any of you.

HOWL CON is dear to me and will continue. It’s clear, however, that trying to fund an event of this size organically via pre-registrations and dealer payments just isn’t going to work. If you believe werewolf horror/fantasy deserves an annual moot, and that wolf conservation & education is a worthy cause, please watch for and contribute to a crowdfunding campaign in the coming months to mount another HOWL CON in February 2017. Perks will include sponsorship privileges, pre-registrations at the attendee and patron levels, exclusive at-con benefits, plus whatever swag we can pull together.

I’ll release details soon of a smaller bridging event in the Portland area–something to keep the embers warm, probably on the scale of a film screening. Meanwhile, please continue to follow and support the fine folks at Wolf Haven International and other sanctuaries near you.

Big thanks to HOWL CON true believers Werewolf News, Monster Kid Radio, Mordrude’s Monsters, Walk of the Red Wolf, Costume Avenue, Bryan “PDX Werewolf” Dorr, and everyone else who carries the torch. Those of you who have invested in weekend passes and dealer den positions, let’s follow up individually about whether you’d like your monies refunded or your registrations rolled over to 2017’s event. Thank you everyone for your continuing support.

Yea, though the Red Lion taketh away, so doth the Red Lion giveth.

HOWL CON II’s new venue is Red Lion Hotel Kelso/Longview, 510 Kelso Drive, Kelso, WA 98626. Kelso is approximately half an hour north of Portland/Vancouver on I-5. Please email me to ask about options if you were relying on an airport shuttle.

Our weekend is unchanged: February 6-7, 2016. Our hotel page will be updated as soon as our new room reservation link is active. Thanks for your patience, see you in February.

August 29th, 2015

HOWL CON II’s host hotel, Red Lion at the Quay in Vancouver, Washington, is being shuttered on October 31, 2015. My contact there is investigating whether there’s another Red Lion in the Northwest that can simply take over our contract. If not, a new venue will be selected. If a change of weekend becomes necessary (unlikely–I have plenty of options around town), I will put the word out immediately.

Pre-HOWL CON Werewolf Double Feature at Kiggins Theatre

December 3rd, 2014

On Friday, February 6th, the historic Kiggins Theatre is getting into the HOWL CON spirit with a fantastic werewolf double feature:

  • First up is the 1985 comedy Teen Wolf, kicking off its run as part of We Love the 80’s at the Kiggins (sponsored by The Mighty Bowl)! Showtimes at 4:30pm and 6:30pm.
  • Then stay for last year’s cult hit horror-comedy WolfCop (for mature audiences)! Showtime at 8:30pm.
  • Round out the night with werewolf short films, a free-throw competition, and more.
  • The general admission ticket will be discounted for HOWL CON passholders.
  • Patron-level HOWL CON attendees get in FREE!
  • proceeds from concessions will be shared with our partner charity, Wolf Haven.

The Kiggins is just a short walk from HOWL CON’s hotel, so this will be a great way for locals & early arrivals to spend their Friday.
